Destruction and Reconstruction

Duality is a beautiful facet of the human condition. It is most beneficial to explore, understand, and appreciate both sides of the self.

I’m unsure what to call this piece. Party because its a mash-up of multiple high-level concepts pertaining to the self, and because it wrote itself….and I don’t know what name suits it best. It started as a random note I found in my phone and blossomed into this…intriguing piece.

It is a mix of broken word play, prose, and assonance. (And of course, some alliteration here and there) Enjoy!

*update I named the poem :)

What I believed to be true seemed to be my downfall.

Once innocent…I am pleading guilty.

Guilty of turning my back on the truth because of fear.

of denying my humanity. My healing. My feeling.

of the false perception of actions and events.

of misconstruing my reality.

Miscalculated mentality.

The ignorant thinking against myself.

Guilty of refusing to be guided by the brilliance of divinity.

of turning a blind eye to the kindness of my own mind.

Of the ignoring the inner shine that escapes through my eyes.

Guilty of seeking everything I was already given.

Living as if something was missing…

Intuition is never lost, only overlooked, only surpassed and masked by the vicious veil of the ego

Muted by a mind in a ruin

Trumped by false triumphs

Lost amidst the let downs and the misses

Hopefulness turned hopelessness

Time, wound up, and twisted

Sadness that encapsulates the essence of my existence.

Yes, I am guilty, for turning my back on my intuition.

It was me, only seeing, what wasn’t really me…

Falsely navigating a multifarious perspective of truth and illusion

But this newfound perspicacious lens, proves this:

Hopefulness has never led me astray

Time has never been my enemy

Despair has never succeeded in making me crumble.

The only thing that has ever held me back was myself.

Realization is a sword, slicing through the air, stripping me of who I used to be

A long-awaited awakening

An honorable victory over a relentless force

The other half of the self, divorced.

Stripped away are the discarded layers of my past

It returns to its final resting place

The fallen veil, fastened to my heels.

Accepting its fate, it slowly fades…

The shadow is devoured by the light.
