Rome, Italy

Ciao!

It has been entirely too long since I’ve written anything. Truthfully, I’m a little disappointed in myself. I thought I would be traveling the world, completely enthralled in my surroundings, and entrenched in inspiration. (Bare in mind, I’m EXHAUSTED, so my writing is a little iffy. But here is a long awaited update…)

So far…my European adventure has been solely about experience. Making connections. Immersing myself in the beautiful architecture and culture of ancient cities. Being fully present in my reality. I am writing this now from a small café in Rome, Italy––with my cappuccino and ashtray resting beside my computer. It’s the simple things, really.

Ah, Rome. It is, without a doubt, a miraculous place. The eternal city. Every building is adorned with intricate marble and granite details. The streets breathe an ancient story lined with stone that stretches across the centuries. Behind every doorway, lies a work of art. No matter which building you choose to enter, you will be greeted with centuries old masterpieces, dazzling architecture, and an abundant history behind whatever lies in front of your eyes.

Rome is the home of magnificent edifices. It smells of history, triumph, and turmoil. It is buzzing with an essence that pulls you into another world–––through the passage of time and into the realm of “once was.”

What I have found to be evidently true, no matter what place I find myself in, is that it is not so much about what is seen, but felt.

Sure, it is an event in itself to see the massive stone Colosseum from afar, jutting out from behind the row of age-old buildings. It steals your gaze from the rest of the city immediately. But, to walk across it’s hallowed, ancient grounds. To quite literally feel the lifetimes of existence that it has experienced, graze your hand against the crumbling stone walls and let the blazing sun scorch your shoulders whilst breathing in the surrounding haze of ancient air…that is an experience rooted in appreciation for the epochs in which it has stood, valiant and almost intact.

Roman architecture protrudes from the ground and into the atmosphere, engulfing you in wonder and timeless glory. It is a city that bleeds splendor and breathes an eternal life, forever capturing the eyes and minds of all those who walk it’s cobble-stoned streets.

That’s all for now folks, I need a looooong nap…

To be continued!
